Description
One week straight of drawing a hand a day. Uploaded this a few days late due to moving and such, but eh.
All hands were referenced from: www.elfwood.com/farp/hand/
My process for each of these hands was to sketch in a rough polygon representing the base of the hand first, then to draw circles to represent the knuckles, and working from there. This was to make sure I didn't draw things too out of proportion.
Some observations I made:
-It's very easy to psych yourself out and think your hand is misshapen when it's actually on-target. Shading makes a major difference, especially in foreshortened hands.
-Fingers have contour, especially at their tips. The way a fingertip is shaped can tell you a lot about the position of the finger and the hand in general.
-Drawing nails and shading in creases/knuckles helps a lot with getting a feel for the overall shape of a hand.
-The position of the arm matters. In several cases, the hand looked completely off until I adjusted the angle at which the arm was connected.
-The base of the hand also has contour and bone structure.
I dunno if I'll draw hands this week--been thinking about moving onto overall anatomy.
